Lindsey Driesen-Hanas -- AVID Guidance Counselor
Laurie Grulich -- AVID Coordinator
The AVID program, or Advancement Via Individual Determination, was first introduced at Fowler High School in 2005. AVID is a program that supports mid-level achieving students within our advanced curriculums offered at FHS. Students who are accepted into the AVID program experience a rigorous curriculum that prepares them for a four-year college degree program. Fowler is now proud to have 7 classes of approimately 120 students and will be graduating its first class of AVID Seniors in June 2009!
To be eligible for entry into the AVID program, students must have an overall average a C (~70%) or better, good attendance, and motivation to improve their academic performance. Students who participate in the AVID program visit 2-3 colleges a year, act as Jenna Foundation Mentors, and are encouraged to take on leadership roles within the Fowler Community.
Once enrolled in AVID, students will remain with their AVID class until graduation and approximately 95% of AVID students show a significant improvement in their academic performance. Students interested in joining AVID should contact Lindsay Driesen-Hanas, AVID Guidance Counselor at 315-435-4371 or email her at ldriesen@scsd.us.
