2012 Summer Success Academy at OCC

The Summer Success Academy (SSA) was a five-week program at Onondaga Community College (OCC) created to prepare students to be more successful in college. The program took place from July 6 - August 10, 2012 and included 29 Syracuse City School District graduates who all intend to enroll at OCC in Fall 2012 as full-time Say Yes Scholars. Orientation was on July 6, 2012, followed by a team-building day at Orenda Springs on July 7th and classes/programming Monday-Friday from 8 AM – 5 PM July 9-August 10, 2012.

During the five weeks, students took OCC courses, received academic support from tutors and mentors, and got a jump-start on college life and academic studies. SSA students were enrolled in a total of 3 college courses including at least 1 developmental course and a 1 credit introduction to college course. The college life course oriented students to OCC services, college life, and introduced them to study skills they can use to be academically successful at OCC and beyond.

Through this program, SSA students had an opportunity to make new friends who shared their motivation, desire to succeed, and intent to have an amazing and one-of-a-kind summer experience. The SSA was fully funded by Say Yes to Education and Onondaga Community College.
