Visitors Drop In on Say Yes Summer Program
Students in the Say Yes to Education Summer Program’s Sports Broadcasting enrichment class at Dr. King School were visited by Jim Boeheim, the head coach of the Syracuse University Men’s Basketball Team, Jim Gaspo, the president of Citizens Bank and Superintendent Sharon L. Contreras.
Coach Boeheim and Mr. Gaspo presented checks to Say Yes in support of the summer program. The Boeheim Foundation donated $15,000 to the program and Citizens Bank donated $20,000. About 40 4th and 5th grade students got to ask Coach Boeheim and Mr. Gaspo questions, and both men also spoke to the students about the importance of staying in school.
Nearly 3000 K-5 students are enrolled in Say Yes Summer Camp. Say Yes campers will spend the next 6 weeks, 4 days each week, engaged in rigorous academic lessons taught by certified teachers in the morning, and their afternoons will be spent participating in enrichment activities such as music, dance, art, and sports.
This is the fourth year that thousands of Syracuse children have had the opportunity to attend camp free of charge through Say Yes to Education.
