SCSD Students Create Image Campaign
Members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet were proud to show off the marketing campaign they created with help from the Creative Services Department at Clear Channel Syracuse.
In a presentation to Superintendent Sharon L. Contreras, the students talked about what a valuable experience working on the campaign was for them and why they think it’s important to change the community’s perception of students who attend Syracuse City schools.
"In the news, we only see the fights that happen in the schools or how graduation rates are dropping. They never mention when they are increasing. It's just all the bad things that happen," said Karla Sanchez, a senior at ITC.
“Get to Know Me’’ looks to dispel the stereotypes the students say they face. The campaign includes the voices of Andrew Breuer of Hueber-Breuer Construction Co. and Jus Mic, an on-air personality with Clear Channel Syracuse. Also included are the stories of eight high school students and a Syracuse City School District family.
Since 2006, a group of students has collaborated with the Creative Services Department at Clear Channel Syracuse to work on the project. The students spend two months doing everything from brainstorming to market research, gaining valuable job experience along the way.
"Over the six years, we've had a big bus wrap. There are spots that will air on our five radio stations for the next few months. There's a whole poster campaign," said Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Regional Market Manager Joel Delmonico.
"To have students that came in that I could actually sit down and talk to and be exactly that, be a success story in front of them, that was cool. It was invaluable," said on-air personality, Jus Mic.
The “Get to Know Me’’ radio spots began airing on Clear Channel Stations in early June. For more on the campaign http://www.wearescsd.com/pages/index.html
