Fashion Technology Program Students Win Awards at Scholastic Art Awards |

Shakayla Mitchell and Anelly's Olivo, seniors at Henninger High School and studying Fashion Design and Technology in the Fashion Technology Program at the Johnson Vocational and Career Center have been recognized for their excellent work at this years Scholastic Art Awards. Shakayla won a Gold Key Award for her fashion design entitled "Little Maria". "Little Maria" was designed and constructed individually by Shakayla as part of a larger display entitled "Marie Meets Maurisha". "Marie Meets Maurisha" was a Fashion Technology team project which was awarded a First Place and Director's Award last spring at the Community Folk Art Center's Teen Art Competition. The project was inspired by the historical study of fashionista Marie Antoinette. In addition to winning her Gold Key Award Shakayla was also awarded the Tracy L. Haylor Textile Award for Best of Show in the Fashion category. Shakayla plans to attend SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology for Accessory Design in the fall. Anellys was awarded Honorable Mention for her fashion illustration piece entitled "Rockin 80's". She plans to attend SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology for Fashion Design in the fall. |
